Component replacement can extend the life of a serviceable computer. In the instance of modern software applications by Microsoft ® and certain other vendors that require "activation" in order to be used, an upgrade of an existing PC can save you many hours of time and labor cost by avoiding reinstallation and activation. ("Activated" software, such as Windows XP ®, shuts itself down when it "thinks" that it has been moved to a new computer.)
